Sometimes I hear the phrase, “I’m going into part time ministry.” Do you feel like you are called to do part time ministry? Cause you’re not. No one is called to part time ministry. I personally don’t like that term. When you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior he didn’t say “well thanks there sonny, Im delighted you accepted my gift. Now its time for you to go on your own way. Oh and by the way would you like to try our part time ministry or full time ministry opportunities?!” No way! That is not at all what happened. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord you gave your life to him. You picked up a magnificent purpose for your life. You gave up your old sinful ways. You must follow his call on your life and you must have a relationship with him. If you don’t have that then how are you any different from non-believers who sleep around, do drugs, and fight with each-other. “I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, ‘I’m rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone,’ oblivious that in fact you’re a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless.” (Revelations 3:14-22) What happens if I don’t follow God’s will?, some Christians might ask. Well I know for one, it doesn’t make God happy. It doesn’t make God happy even if you are a morally sound person, if your not listening to him it doesn’t make a difference. “Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance— isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’ And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.” Matthew 7:21-23. Now back on topic. All Christians are called to full time ministry. No Christians are called to part time ministry. Of course you may work at a church part time but that is only part of your ministry. Your evangelism of the good news should never cease; whether you are an engineer, pharmacist, burger flipper, waiter or waitress, or a pastor at a mega church.
Part Time? Full Time?
Lets remember the most important thing. Which is that God loves you and wants to be in your life.”Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.” Rev 3:20 It is so easy to have a relationship with the creator of everything we see. Why do we do such a bad job at it. Keep your relationship with God alive and you will stay alive in him and through him you will do magnificent things for him.
