Walking on water? What?!

Every Christian knows that Jesus walked on Water. We think, “Wow, thats cool.” I think we need to question why Jesus did such a thing. I believe that everything Christ did had a reason. Why did he walk on water? We have the obvious present situation that there was a storm and the disciples were frightened by this. But lets go deeper and see whats going on.  When we look back at Chapter 6 of Mark and Chapter 14 of Matthew we see that John the Baptist had just been beheaded by Herod as a favor for Herodias. The disciples must have been hurt from this. I can see how the disciples would assume that they might be next. Could this event have lowered the moral of Christ’s Disciples? If so I guarantee you that when they saw Jesus walking on water they were filled with awe and courage! So much courage that Peter called out to Jesus, ” ‘Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.’  ‘Yes, come,’ Jesus said.” Peter then walked out onto the water toward Jesus but then lost courage when he saw wind and waves around him. He began to sink. Jesus came and pulled him up. God is not limited to our natural laws. He is not restricted to his creation. We can not lose sight of this.

When we face tough situations, not if, but when, we need to have the spirit of God in us. We need to be filled with courage. We need to have the faith to walk straight through a storm. Ask the Lord to build your faith so that these things can be accomplished in your life. Unlike Peter we do not have the physical incarnation of Jesus. What we have is something more powerful. We have God in us. He has made our hearts his home through Jesus.

“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” -Ephesians 3:14-19 (NLT)

Let God bless you with unmeasurable courage. Courage that David had when he fought Goliath and killed him, courage that Ester had to go before the king, courage to pray crazy prayers like Joshua telling the sun to stop, and courage to do things for God without regard of your fear. If you want to make any kind of difference that goes beyond finite means and into a world infinite glory! Then serve an infinite Holy God with Courage!

Just ask. He will give it to you.
